The Town of Cobourg is advising residents and neighbours of 390 King Street East, the former Brookside property, that demolition work on the site will soon begin.
According to the Town’s Development Division, the demolition permit issued September 15, 2025, under the Ontario Building Code authorizes the removal of all existing structures on the property with the exception of three buildings currently under review for heritage designation under Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act.
Those buildings are Strathmore Hall, Cottesmore Hall Stables and Winch Cottage. Town officials note these structures are excluded from the permit while their heritage value is assessed.
Staff say they are actively monitoring the site to ensure all demolition activities proceed in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The Town adds that protecting the community’s heritage while addressing development needs remains a priority throughout the process.
Residents living near the property are thanked in advance for their understanding and cooperation during the work. Questions about the demolition or heritage review can be directed to the Town’s Development Division.
The Town emphasizes that safety and adherence to provincial legislation will guide the demolition as it moves forward.
