There have been two more seizures of contraband and unauthorized items following suspected drone drops at Warkworth Institution.
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is once again crediting staff for their vigilance following the seizure of two packages back at the end of August at the medium-security federal institution.
Officials now say the seized items included tobacco, marijuana, “shatter” – also known as cannabis concentrate – rolling papers, and a cellphone accessory.
“The total estimated institutional value of these seizures is approximately $158,600,” reports the CSC.
Officials say a number of tools continue to be used to prevent drugs from entering institutions, including ion scanners, as well as detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors. This is in addition to heightened measures, which remain in place to prevent contraband and unauthorized items from entering facilities, and ongoing work with police to take action against those who attempt to introduce these items into correctional institutions.
A telephone tip line also remains in place where information relating to security at facilities can be shared anonymously by calling 1-8666-780-3784.
