Transition House has announced that Executive Director Ike Nwibe will leave the organization on September 19 to pursue a new opportunity.
Northumberland County’s recent approval of a new service model for the 310 Division Street shelter in Cobourg is prompting significant changes at Transition House. The organization, which provides emergency shelter and supports for people experiencing homelessness, is entering a period of transition to align its operations with the County’s plan. As part of this shift, Transition House is making leadership changes and preparing to implement the new model designed to deliver more coordinated and effective services for unhoused residents.
Board Chair Meaghan Macdonald says Nwibe’s leadership has been invaluable during his nearly two years with the shelter.
The leadership change comes as Transition House begins implementing a new model of service delivery at 310 Division Street, approved by Northumberland County Council in August. To guide the organization through this period of change, the board has appointed Christian Harvey as interim Executive Director for up to six months. Harvey most recently served as Executive Director of One City Peterborough and has extensive experience supporting unhoused individuals.
Macdonald went on to say that the organization’s focus will be on shelter beds and providing the right supports to clients, while recognizing that visible homelessness will not disappear overnight.
Transition House provides shelter and support services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Northumberland County. something Macdonald says she has confidence they can continue to do under the new service model.
During this interim period, the Board will also consider the strategic direction and path forward for the organization, including recruiting a permanent Executive Director.
