Our latest interview series is called Your Money, Your Community and it launches with Cobourg mortgage broker Ashley Packard, who says her approach is built on inclusivity and tailoring solutions to each client’s unique needs.
“Honestly, there’s no ‘one type’ of client. Everyone’s story and situation is unique – and that’s exactly why I chose to work in the broker channel.” says Packard. “I can work with all types of lenders and programs, which means I can tailor solutions whether someone is buying their first home, refinancing, consolidating debt, or planning for retirement.”
She adds that contributing to the community is a priority for her. Financial literacy is a cornerstone of success according to Packard, which is why she dedicates time to teaching youth by volunteering with Junior Achievement Canada, where she presents financial literacy programs in community schools.
Packard says she’d like to see more community members, particularly financial professionals, get involved. “It’s a lot of energy to go into schools and present to students, but it’s so much fun and incredibly rewarding. I’ve been amazed at how smart and engaged the kids are, and how much they want to learn about finances.”
Beyond helping with mortgages, Packard says she wants clients to understand that choosing financing isn’t just about rates.
“The interest rate is just one piece of the puzzle. The right mortgage for someone isn’t always the one with the lowest rate – it’s about the terms, flexibility, prepayment options, and how it aligns with your future plans.” Packard and her team have developed a new series, Beyond the Rate, designed to help people understand the bigger picture of mortgages, which will soon premiere on her social pages.
Packard says she also serves as a connector, linking clients to realtors, lawyers, insurance brokers, and financial advisors, building community while helping people navigate major life changes.
