Northumberland OPP are advising drivers of significant delays on westbound Highway 401 following a serious two-vehicle collision near Port Hope on Tuesday afternoon.
Police say the crash happened just west of the Wesleyville area and involved a motorcycle. The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital with injuries. Details on the extent of those injuries have not yet been released.
As of publication time, traffic is moving only on the left-hand shoulder past the crash site and is heavily backed up for several kilometres. OPP are recommending motorists exit at Wesleyville or seek alternate routes to avoid the congestion.
Emergency crews remain at the scene while investigators work to determine the cause of the collision. The right lanes of the highway are expected to remain blocked until the scene is cleared.
Motorists are asked to slow down and use caution when travelling through the area to allow responders to work safely.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
