
Police are once again calling on all motorists to make safe choices behind the wheel after five separate impaired driving investigations in Quinte West in recent days.
On Monday, Aug. 25, 2025, at about 11 p.m., police said an investigation into a single-vehicle crash on eastbound Hwy. 401 led Quinte West OPP to suspect a motorist may have been under the influence of alcohol.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 21-year-old Cobourg resident was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and being a novice driver with a B.A.C. (blood alcohol concentration) above zero.
Also on Monday, at about 12:45 a.m., police said a RIDE check in the Hwy. 401 eastbound on route area resulted in the arrest of a 42-year-old Kingston resident.
As a result of the investigation, police said the accused was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, possession of a schedule I substance – methamphetamine, operation while impaired – combined blood alcohol and blood drug concentration, having care or control of a vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available, possession of unmarked cigarettes, class GI licence holder – unaccompanied by a qualified driver, class GI licence holder – drive on prohibited highway, and class GI licence holder – drive at unlawful hour.
Meanwhile, last Saturday, Aug. 23, at about 3:15 a.m., after responding to a traffic complaint on Hwy. 401 westbound, an investigation led to the arrest of a 46-year-old Brampton resident, reported OPP.
The accused was charged with failure or refusal to comply with a demand, operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, dangerous operation, and drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available.
Last Friday, Aug. 22, there were two more alleged incidents.
At about 8:15 p.m., OPP said officers responded to an incident on Bay Street, which led to an impaired driving investigation and arrest.
The accused 48-year-old Quinte West resident was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus,) failure to surrender licence, and having care or control of a vehicle with liquor readily available.
At about 7:45 p.m., police said a traffic stop in the Frankford Road area led to an arrest.
As a result of the investigation, police said the 53-year-old Quinte West resident was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus,) driving a vehicle with an open container of liquor, and careless driving.
None of the charges in the above unrelated investigations have been proven in court.
In addition to future court dates, all of the accused also had their licences suspended for 90 days and the vehicles were impounded for seven days.
OPP continues to ask citizens who suspect someone is driving impaired – or about to drive impaired – to report it by calling 911.
