Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reminding people to stay safe on the roads and waterways this Labour Day long weekend.
OPP’s Bill Dickson says officers will be out patrolling highways, trails, and lakes, focusing on behaviours that often lead to serious collisions and injuries, particularly aggressive driving.
Another top concern is passengers not wearing seat belts. Parents are also reminded that children must be secured in the proper booster or child restraint seats.
Dickson says they will also be targeting unsafe driving – particularly distractions that lead to collisions.
On the water, safety is also a major concern. This summer has already seen a high number of drownings. At beaches, parents should keep children within arm’s reach.
Finally, those who consume alcohol and then get behind the wheel will find zero tolerance from officers on patrol.
The goal for OPP is simple: zero tragedies this weekend.
