OPP say inter-agency cooperation led to the recovery of two stolen vehicles early Tuesday morning.
On August 27, shortly after 2:00 a.m., officers responded to a request from York Regional Police for assistance in stopping two cars believed to be stolen and travelling eastbound on Highway 401 near Bowmanville.
Police say one vehicle was stopped safely in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand, where the driver was taken into custody. The second continued along the highway and was later intercepted in Quinte West. Both drivers were arrested without incident and turned over to York Regional Police, who are continuing the investigation.
According to police, the incident highlights the importance of collaboration between services. Auto theft is a crime that frequently crosses municipal and regional boundaries. Coordinated response allows officers to share information quickly, stop vehicles safely, and return stolen property to its owners.
Anyone with information about criminal activity is asked to contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or submit details online at stopcrimehere.ca. Crime Stoppers does not use call display and callers can remain anonymous.
