Cobourg Police have charged a 25-year-old man following an investigation into a reported assault in the downtown area.
Police say the investigation began on August 20, 2025, when an individual attended a local business with minor injuries and reported they had been assaulted. Officers opened a case and began collecting evidence. Investigators obtained CCTV footage from the area of King Street and Division Street, which captured the incident. The footage provided officers with enough information to identify a suspect.
As a result of the investigation, on August 22, 2025, police arrested a 25-year-old Cobourg man. He has been charged with assault and failure to comply with probation.
Following his arrest, the accused was held for a show cause hearing and subsequently remanded into custody. Police have not released the man’s name in accordance with standard procedure unless the matter is before the courts in a way that requires public disclosure.
Cobourg Police continue to encourage anyone who witnesses suspicious or violent activity to report it immediately so officers can investigate and respond quickly.
