Cobourg police have arrested two adults following a Controlled Drug and Substances Act search warrant executed Wednesday morning near Division and Swayne streets. The operation was part of the Cobourg Police Service’s enhanced enforcement strategy targeting illegal drug activity in Northumberland County.
Officers from the CPS Criminal Investigations Bureau were assisted by Belleville Police Emergency Response Unit, K9 units, uniform officers, and Special Constables. During the search, police located a quantity of cocaine, fentanyl, psilocybin, weapons, and stolen property. Two children were present inside the residence, and officers reported that drugs and weapons were plainly visible and accessible to them.
The accused, a 36-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, both from Cobourg, face multiple charges including possession of fentanyl, cocaine, psilocybin, possession of weapons, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and failure to provide necessities of life. The male also faces three additional charges for possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order.
Both individuals were held for a bail hearing later that day. The names of the accused are being withheld to protect the identities of the children.
The Cobourg Police Service reminds residents that community safety remains a top priority and encourages anyone with information on drug-related activity to contact local police.
