Air Canada flight attendants represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) will hold a nationwide Day of Action on Monday, August 11, at major airports across the country.
The union is asking its 10,000 members to show up in uniform at designated times in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver to support the bargaining team, which remains in talks with the airline.
The union says this demonstration is not a strike, but a show of unity following the results of a strike mandate vote, in which 99.7 per cent of members voted in favour. That vote gives the union the legal ability to strike as early as 12:01 a.m. on August 16, with 72 hours’ notice.
The Day of Action is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Eastern in Toronto and Montreal, 11 a.m. Mountain Time in Calgary, and 10 a.m. Pacific Time in Vancouver.
CUPE’s Air Canada Component says the demonstration reflects member concerns over working conditions and unpaid labour, and emphasizes the urgency of progress at the bargaining table.
Talks between the airline and union resumed Friday after the two sides failed to reach a deal during conciliation earlier this year.
Air Canada has said it remains focused on negotiating a settlement and is not yet planning for flight cancellations or disruptions.
Members are encouraged to visit accstrikehq.ca for updates and commuter coordination. Additional bulletins from local bases are expected as the date approaches.
