As the Civic Holiday long weekend arrives on Monday, August 4, 2025, residents across Northumberland County can expect a mix of closures and regular services. Many municipal offices will be closed on the holiday, while some facilities and services will operate as usual.
BRIGHTON
Brighton municipal offices will be closed on the Civic Holiday, Monday, August 4. They will reopen on Tuesday, August 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
COBOURG
All municipal offices and buildings—including Victoria Hall, the Cobourg Community Centre, Public Works Building 7, the Cobourg Public Library, and the Venture13 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre—will be closed Monday, August 4. The Cobourg Community Centre will be open on Saturday, August 2, and Sunday, August 3, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Cobourg Public Library will be open on Saturday, August 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Victoria Hall and its Art Gallery will be open Saturday from 12 to 4 p.m. Cobourg Transit will operate regular hours throughout the holiday weekend.
PORT HOPE
Municipal administrative buildings and Port Hope Public Library branches will be closed on Monday, August 4. However, municipal recreation facilities, transit service, and the Hope Transfer Station will remain open with regular hours. For urgent water, wastewater, or road-related emergencies, residents can call 905-885-2431 and press * to reach the after-hours line. Normal business hours resume Tuesday, August 5.
RECYCLING AND GARBAGE COLLECTION
As Monday is a holiday, all collections for the week will move ahead one day, so if you’re regular day is Monday, you’ll need to put out your items on Tuesday, Tuesday on Wednesday and so on.
LIQUOR STORES
Cobourg LCBO and Beer Store are open with the same hours, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Port Hope and Brighton residents will need to travel outside of town, as all of their available locations will be closed.
PHARMACY
Both the Cobourg Shoppers and the Port Hope Shoppers Simply Pharmacy will be open. Brighton Rexall will be closed.
GROCERIES
Cobourg Foodland and Brighton Sobey’s will be open with regular store hours. Cobourg’s M&M Food Market will be opened from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the Port Hope M&M’s from 10 a.m. to 5p.m.
WALMART
Cobourg Walmart will be open with regular hours.
