Authorities are advising residents to check their homes for potentially dangerous electrical outlets recently recalled by Health Canada due to a fire risk.
The affected outlets are white GFCI safety outlets, sold at Home Hardware stores under the Electrical Devices brand. The recall includes the following products:
Item 3666-035, 3-pack (Model TST15)
Item 3666-036, 1-pack (Model TST15)
Item 3666-037, 1-pack (Model TST20)
The outlets have the letters “TR” stamped on the front and “LGL” embossed on the back. They were sold in Canada between 2015 and May 2025, with approximately 664,000 units distributed.
The issue involves terminal screws that may not tighten properly. This can lead to overheating and presents a fire hazard. As of July 9, 2025, Health Canada had received over 800 complaints of stripped or faulty screws and confirmed one related fire with property damage, though no injuries were reported.
Residents are urged to immediately stop using the recalled outlets. Unison Ridge, the distributor, can provide instructions for safe uninstallation. Once removed, the outlets can be returned to any Home Hardware location in Canada for a full refund.
Residents should not redistribute, resell, or donate these items, as doing so would violate the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.
For full details, visit the Health Canada recall website or contact Unison Ridge directly.
