
Prince Edward County OPP says an investigation is continuing after a drowning incident involving a three-year-old child at Sandbanks Provincial Park.
In a release issued Friday, July 25, 2025, police said on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at about 5:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to Sandbanks Provincial Park after a child went missing while playing with family members in a shallow area of water.
The child was located and recovered by bystanders prior to the arrival of emergency crews and subsequently transported to hospital by EMS, said OPP. Despite resuscitation efforts, police said the child was pronounced deceased.
The identity of the victim is not being released out of respect for the family’s privacy, said police.
Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue, Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services and Sandbanks Provincial Park wardens supported OPP in response to the incident, and OPP is also thanking members of the public who helped during the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing, said police, adding that if anyone has information that can help with the investigation, they’re urged to reach out to OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
No other details were released by police.
