Cobourg police say a 60-year-old e-bike driver is facing impaired driving charges.
At about 8 p.m. last Friday July 18, police said they responded to the Division Street area following a report of a man allegedly operating an e-bike while impaired.
The man was found in the downtown area, and as a result of the investigation, the 60-year-old Cobourg man was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus.)
This charge has not been proven in court.
The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date, reported police.
The Cobourg Police Service is reminding residents that in Canada e-bikes are classified as motor vehicles, and therefore, operating such bikes while impaired can lead to charges under the Criminal Code of Canada.
Police continue to ask citizens to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911.
