Summer reading clubs are back, and they’re not just for kids. While the TD Summer Reading Program has a focus on kids, the nationwide program celebrating Canadian books encourages readers of all ages and abilities to enjoy reading in their own way at the library, at home or wherever summer takes them.
In Cobourg, the library has expanded the summer challenge to include teens and adults.
The Teen Summer Reading Club, running from June 30 to August 23, invites youth aged 13 to 17 to collect stamps for every eight items they check out. Each completed card earns them a shot at prizes like gift cards and Rainbow Cinema passes.
Community Engagement Coordinator Rachel Spence tells us more.
Meanwhile, adults can join the Summer Checkout Challenge from July 2 through August 30. Participants can pick up a reading challenge bookmark at any library branch. Each completed task gets them an entry into a monthly prize draw, with the grand prize being a gift basket filled with $200 in local restaurant gift cards.
The Cobourg Public Library is also thanking local partners for their generous support, including YMCA Northumberland, B&D Liquidation and B&D Bins, The Squishy Goose, Canada Candy Company and Rainbow Cinemas.
The library is closed Sundays through the summer, but the reading continues all season long so head to the library and unlock whole new worlds with your library card.
