Cobourg Police will wrap-up a two-day road safety initiative aimed at improving compliance among commercial drivers today.
On June 19 and 20, the Cobourg Police Service hosted Commercial Vehicle Awareness Days in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police, Ministry of Transportation, and police services from Peterborough, Port Hope, and Belleville.
The campaign was part of Cobourg’s June Selective Traffic Enforcement Project (STEP) and focused on safety inspections and engagement with commercial vehicle operators.
Officers and certified inspectors were stationed at checkpoints around town, checking trucks and trailers for mechanical issues, proper load securing, and required documentation.
Police say the operation helped promote awareness of road safety laws while also identifying potential risks on the roads.
“Ensuring commercial vehicles meet safety standards helps protect everyone who shares the road,” police noted in a media release.
The initiative included both education and enforcement, reminding drivers and businesses of their responsibilities under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act and Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) system.
Cobourg Police thanked the public for their patience during the operation and encouraged all commercial drivers to regularly inspect their vehicles and stay up to date with safety regulations.
