A report about suspicious drone activity near Warkworth Institution has led to charges for two North York residents, including one youth, says Northumberland OPP.
In a release on Monday, June 16, 2025, police confirmed mischief charges had been laid after police earlier this month received a report from the medium-security facility about drone activity in the area.
The report came in on June 6 at about 12:45 p.m., police reported. Meanwhile, police said details were also provided about a vehicle being driven in a field off County Road 30.
Police said a patrol of the area led to officers locating a vehicle matching the description provided, and two individuals of the stationary vehicle being taken into custody. Alleged evidence relating to the drone was also seized.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 21-year-old North York resident and 17-year-old North York resident were charged with mischief – obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property.
None of these charges have been proven in court. Both of the accused will appear in Cobourg court at later dates.
