An Orillia resident has been charged after police say a Cramahe resident fell victim to an alleged romance scam.
Back in April, Northumberland OPP said police received a report about an online fraud where a Township of Cramahe resident was subject to a romance scam between November 2024 and March 2025.
A quantity of cash was reportedly provided to an individual, prompting the start of an investigation, said police.
In terms of the latest, police said through lines of inquiry and with help from OPP in Orillia, officers made an arrest in connection with the alleged incident. As a result of the investigation, police said a 73-year-old was charged with fraud over $5,000.
This charge has not been proven in court.
The accused will appear in Cobourg court in July.
No other details were provided by police.
