The Cobourg Police Service is advising the public about a multi-agency training exercise happening in town this week.
On the evening of Wednesday, June 18, police officers, along with local EMS and the Cobourg Fire Department, will take part in an Active Attacker Response training session at Cobourg Collegiate Institute and near CR Gummow Public School. The training will run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Residents may notice a large police presence in the area, along with emergency service vehicles. Police stress there is no cause for alarm – this is only a drill.
According to a statement from the Cobourg Police Service, the training is part of ongoing efforts to ensure emergency responders are prepared to act quickly and effectively in high-risk situations. Exercises like this are now mandated under Ontario’s Community Safety and Policing Act.
Police say the goal is to improve coordination between agencies during active threat scenarios and increase readiness for real-world emergencies.
The public is being thanked in advance for its understanding and cooperation during the evening exercise.
