The Town of Cobourg has announced changes to its property tax payment schedule for 2025, aiming to simplify the process for residents.
Property tax bills will now be issued twice a year, with each bill containing two installments, for a total of four payments annually.
The first tax bill is based on 50 per cent of the previous year’s total, divided into two equal payments, with no increase reflected. The second bill, issued in the spring, will include the final two installments, calculated using updated 2025 tax rates.
Payment due dates for all properties-residential, commercial, and industrial-are now unified: February 28, April 30, June 30, and September 30. This change eliminates separate due dates for different property types.
The 2025 budget, approved in December, includes a 5.23 per cent net increase, accounting for new assessment growth of 2.32 per cent and an infrastructure levy of one per cent. Final tax rates will also include County and education levies once they are set.
There are no changes for residents enrolled in pre-authorized payment plans.
Cobourg is encouraging more residents to go paperless by registering for e-billing at cobourg.ca/taxes.
