Phase 2 of Port Hope’s Walton Street reconstruction project is nearly complete, says the municipality.
This means this weekend’s holiday festivities – the Candlelight Walk, Block Friday: Moonlight Madness, and Santa Claus Parade – are proceeding as planned.
“Crews will return next week to finish minor tasks and cleanup the site,” noted municipal staff. “We are on track to reopen Walton Street to vehicle traffic by the end of the workday on Monday, Dec. 2.”
At this time, John Street will also return to its regular one-way traffic flow, added staff.
Garbage collection in the downtown area will resume as usual after the street reopening.
The municipality also noted that transit services will remain free until Dec. 31.
Starting Wednesday, Dec. 4, the transit route will return to its regular path along Walton, following the completion of reconstruction.
“We will continue to provide updates on our website and social media channels. Should any changes occur over the weekend, we are prepared to issue further notifications,” noted staff.
“Thank you for your patience and co-operation throughout this project. We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors back to an improved and more accessible downtown,” said the municipality.
