Northumberland County has announced a full road closure of Brook Road North (CR 20) in Cobourg from September 23 to October 11, 2024.
This closure, between Elgin Street East and King Street, is to accommodate the installation of underground infrastructure for water and sewer services and widen the road to include a left turn lane. The project is part of ongoing development in the area. Local access will be maintained just south of Elgin Street East, but all other traffic will be rerouted via D’Arcy Street, with signage provided for detours.
Council chose this approach over a longer, partial closure, reducing the overall construction time by five weeks. Denise Marshall, Director of Public Works, acknowledged the potential inconvenience but emphasized the importance of completing the work safely and efficiently.
Following the closure, periodic lane restrictions will continue during daytime hours, with full project completion anticipated by the end of October.
Residents and businesses are advised to plan accordingly and stay informed through County updates.
