Cobourg Police are warning the public of a scam targeting renters
A local resident recently received a suspicious email from a fake property manager, promoting a new rent payment method.
The email raised suspicions due to its lack of essential details, typos, and an unfamiliar sender.
Fortunately, the resident identified it as a scam and didn’t send any money.
If you encounter such emails: avoid sending money, verify with your property manager or landlord, or contact CPS for assistance.
You can also report any fraud to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
