Heads-up to commuters headed through the Durham Region– Plans might need to be rescheduled on account of major highway closures striking this weekend.
A full closure of Hwy. 401 in both directions at Simcoe Street in Oshawa will happen while the Simcoe Street overpass is demolished.
The work to demolish the bridge is expected to start between 11 p.m. on July 22 and 7 a.m. on July 23.
Detours have been posted ahead of time. All eastbound traffic will exit at the Simcoe off-ramp, then follow Bloor Street east until reaching the next 401 on-ramp around Fourth Avenue.
Westbound traffic can expect something similar: get off at Drew Street off-ramp, head north to the First Avenue and Drew Street intersection, then follow First to Simcoe Street and onto the on-ramp to the 401 westbound.
Simcoe Street South will also see closures during this time.
Signage will be in place to warn the public.
