A recent donation from the Brian Todd Memorial Community Fund has put Campbellford Memorial Hospital (CMH) one step closer to purchasing a new CT Scanner for their imaging department and retiring their current one known affectionately as “Phil”.
“The current CT Scanner is a Phillips model, so we got to calling him “Phil” in our department”, said Colleen Smith – Manager of the Imaging Department and a Registered XRay Technician. “In my opinion he is one of the most important pieces of diagnostic equipment in the hospital.”
“Phil” was installed in 2010, and has been doing scans for 13 years.
“We have been so lucky, CT Scanners usually don’t last that long, their usual lifespan is about 10 years, but after 13 years, we are now putting a lot more into the upkeep and it needs to be replaced. We will keep it as a backup, to the new one,” added Smith.
Smith was born and raised in Brighton and has been practicing at CMH for just over 20 years and she is a working manager, running the Imaging Department and still administering diagnostic tests too.
The Brian Todd Memorial Community Fund contributed $5,000 towards the purchase of a new CT Scanner for the hospital, putting the financial goal of CMH one step closer to its new equipment. The CT Scanner does several diagnostic tests, some examples include cancer screening, bowel obstructions, appendicitis and of course for fractures too.
“Phil has saved many lives, and helped so many people, particularly those who come in through the emergency department,” added Smith.
The CMH Foundation who raises dollars for the purchase of new equipment is hoping to have the new CT Scanner in place, so that “Phil” can semi – retire and be the back-up scanner by next spring.
