Trent Hills residents looking to celebrate Pride Month will have plenty of events to go to this year.
Emilio Ojeda, President of Trent Hills Pride and Settlement Services Coordinator for Northumberland County, explained a bit about how the group came about.
Ojeda said prior to the pandemic, he was approached by some people he knew that were dissapointed there was no LGBTQ+ group in Trent Hills, so they decided to start one.
He said it was a bit tough to get things going through COVID, so they decided to hold a pandemic friendly Car-avan parade around Campbellford to celebrate pride month.
Ojeda said it got a lot more attention than they expected.
This year, they have a few more events in mind.
Ojeda said he hopes people gain a better understanding of the LGBTQ+ community.
If the events held by Trent Hills Pride this year are successful, Ojeda hopes it will act as a springboard to getting more attention and funding in the future.
