
An East Northumberland Secondary School track and field athlete captured a medal while representing the Brighton school at the Ontario Federation of Schools Athletic Association (OFSAA) championship in Toronto June 2 and 4.
The ENSS Blue Dragons sent seven athletes to the provincial championship at York University, with Brayden Clarke returning with a bronze medal in the junior boys’ long jump event.
Clarke finished third in the province with a leap of 6.04 metres. He finished behind gold medallist Chairo Ogbebor of Christ the King Catholic School in Mississauga, who jumped 6.40 metres. Banujan Kulainthiran of Michael McGivney Catholic School in Markham was the silver medallist.
Clarke was also part of the ENSS junior boys’ relay team of Aidan Fairbanks, Kale Shelton and Zaid Wedderburn-Harper that finished 13th in the province.
Aidan Molenhuis competed in three junior individual events: the 100m hurdles (16.59 seconds), high jump (1.60m) and the 300m hurdles (45.30s). Molenhuis’s time in the 300m hurdles was a personal best. He finished 17th.
Zack Flatt placed 13th in senior boys’ discus (34.77 m).
Jacob Wamboldt posted a personal-best performance in the novice boys’ 300m hurdles, finishing 20th in a time of 45.88s.
Zaid Wedderburn-Harper was 17th in the junior boys’ 200m with a personal best time of 23.84s.
