Northumberland OPP are investigating what they’re calling a “Grandparent Scam” in Trent Hills.
Police are informing residents in the area to be aware of a scam where criminals are targeting grandparents with one victim losing $7500 dollars.
It started with a phone call from someone claiming to be the victim’s grandson, who required the money, in cash, for bail.
A second person, claiming to be the lawyer for their grandson, provided the instructions.
The victim got the cash and was met by a person pretending to be a “bonds man”, who then took the cash and left.
Police are on the look-out for pick-up man, a male described as black, 25-30 years of age, with a slim build, wearing a hat, face mask, black jacket and black pants who left the scene in a black van.
Police ask that you contact them immediately if you are contacted in a similar fashion.
