Lee Kellogg, a long-time resident of Warkworth, loves art and believes in its ability to help heal. After seeing the space at 13 Main Street in downtown Warkworth remain empty for the last 3 years she decided it was time to open the space for creative and therapeutic uses under the name Three Birds Art Therapy.
“I help people with mental health or life challenges, past or present express themselves through creativity,” said Kellogg. “I also love to support those who may have special needs, helping them with fine motor skills and dexterity.”
Kellogg is currently finishing her Master’s Degree through the Toronto Art Therapy Institute. Her thesis is about working with children that have Autism.
Kellogg also will offer creative art wellness, art psychotherapy (in coming weeks), and creative art workshops.
Her art therapy sessions are client-centred and they are tailored to individual needs.
“I also provide creative classes for people who also just want to learn about new art forms or techniques, for example I have a new workshop coming up in November that takes place over a weekend so that attendees learn how to make a Japanese style paper lantern, from working with the raw material of pulp, to creating paper, to lighting it up,” added Kellogg.
She also has plans to host special creative events, Paint Nights and Kids’ Craft Club as well as offer yoga on site.
Her store windows on Main Street also feature some of her artwork and some pieces from other local artists too.
“I really want to be known as not only a place of healing but also a creative space and engage the community of nearby artists as well, offering them free space to display their art too,” added Kellogg.
Everyone is welcome, including individuals and children with special needs.
