Port Hope council is supporting a proposed settlement relating to the Penryn Mason Homes Phase 5 subdivision project.
Mayor Bob Sanderson announced council was supporting a proposed Local Planning Appeal Tribunal settlement between the municipality and project applicant at the last council meeting (May 18).
He adds there has been a lot of pressure and unrest by local residents as the area in question for the development involves the Penryn Forest.
The development of 271 single dwelling units rests on the westerly portion of the subject land, with the hope to increase the existing housing supply in the Municipality.
This story has garnered attention from many people including MPP David Piccini who has voiced his concerns about the project, while asking council to permanently protect the woodlands because of its significance to the local ecosystem, heritage, wildlife and more.
