The federal government feels Canadians should have outdoor gatherings with friends and family soon if certain vaccination targets are met, according to a “roadmap” for life after vaccination which was released today.
Provinces and territories can use these guidelines to inform when certain measures should be eased according to Health Minister Patty Hajdu.
If 75% of those eligible for vaccination have at least one dose and twenty per cent have both, then restrictions start to lift potentially based on local numbers.
Canadians would need to continue measures like physical distancing and proper masking. The roadmap mentions that Canadians should still avoid large crowds, but could be able to sit on patios, have picnics in a park, or go camping, with vaccine coverages set to that level.
In autumn, if 75% of eligible people have been fully vaccinated, then local public health authorities will be able to lift more measures, and individuals should be able to do more indoor activities with those they don’t live with. This could include family gatherings.
To note, almost 36% of Americans have been fully vaccinated, according to the CDC, while more than 46 per cent have received at least one dose. For those aged 18 and older, those figures work out to 45.6 % and 58.9% notably.
In Canada, it is reported that more than 50% of the eligible population has received their 1st dose of the vaccine with signs that the country has finally has reached the downside of the third wave.
