Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre expects to welcome its first residents at the end of this month.
A ribbon cutting was held yesterday (Sept 3) at 1301 Ontario Street in Hamilton Township to celebrate the opening of the brand new, 10 room facility.
Deputy premier and minister of health, Christine Elliott, MPP David Piccini and Community Care Northumberland staff and board members were on site for the ribbon cutting.
Chair of CCN’s board of directors, Stephen Beauchamp, says the milestone marked years of planning, collaboration and hard work to bring resident palliative care to Northumberland.
Trish Baird, executive director of Community Care, says it’s been extraordinary to see the ongoing support of the community and the ministry of health to ensure compassionate end-of-life care is available in Northumberland.
When the building is completed, on top of the rooms for palliative patients, there will be an education and support services area in the state-of-the-art facility.
Launching in the near future, the Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre Foundation will seek support to offset costs.
