Several scams have recently been reported in Port Hope.
Police say a resident’s PayPal account had been used to order merchandise that was set to be shipped to Quebec.
The man was able to cancel his PayPal account and the credit card he used on the site.
In another incident, police say a resident was contacted from an unfamiliar e-mail address, saying they had his Facebook password, and if he didn’t send $2,000 in Bitcoin, illicit videos of him would be posted.
The man reported this to police and did not send funds.
Police say this is a common scam and if this happens to you, change passwords to your social media accounts.
The third scam attempt wasa resident who received a call from someone claiming to be with the Ccanada Revenue Agency, and that if the resident didn’t respond, they’d face legal action
Police are urging residents to always be wary of these calls and to not fall for the scam.
