The OPP are reminding everyone the importance of boating safety.
Making sure you have the proper amount of life jackets is really important when it comes to spending a day on the boat.
This reminder comes after two people died earlier this month on May 9th when their canoe capsized off Manitoulin Island. Neither of the paddlers was wearing a life jacket.
It is also recommended that you not consume alcohol while on a boat to prevent dangerous or illegal activities that come with drinking.
The OPP are finding that well people may have the proper life jackets on their boats, they are often hidden in a compartment that is not readily available in the case of an emergency.
While it is not required for people of all ages to wear life jacket while on boats, it is highly recommended as a safety precaution.
That was OPP Media Relations Officer Adam Crewdson and he adds that even though you are on a lake, water patterns can change in an instant.
In the last 10 years, 80 percent of the people who died in OPP-investigated boating incidents were not wearing a life jacket.
