A partnership between Wounded Warriors Canada and Northumberland County Paramedics was unveiled today (July 10).
Wounded Warriors Canada is an organization that runs group therapy and clinically facilitated trauma programs for first responders, veterans and their families who are struggling with the effects of operational stress injuries like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Chief of the paramedic service, Bill Detlor, says he and the rest of the leadership team are thrilled to have officially penned this partnership.
Executive director of Wounded Warriors Canada, Scott Maxwell, says joining forces like this is crucial.
Maxwell adds that making very public announcements like this also help to decrease the stigma surrounding mental health and lets first responders know what is available to them.
He adds that operational stress injuries are invisible and too often can be fatal when not treated because people living with this trauma take their own lives.
